The best things in life are free. Totally cliche' but totally true.
Father's Day for me usually sucks, I lost my Dad in 2007 to a road accident, and since then it's been the crappest day for me, but lately I've been thinking with a different mindset. Usually I spend my Fathering Sunday, moping around feeling like a jealous mess because everyone is posting about what a fantastic time they are all having with their Dads. This year, I changed my mindset, you see my Dad was one of these people that would live every day to the best of their ability. Some days he could be a grumpy goat, but all Papas are sometimes.
The sun was beaming down in England Sunday, and temperatures of 30 degrees (what I like to call scorching) weather made an appearance. So instead of being stuck indoors worrying about all of the posts on Facebook of everyone having meals and sharing their gifts, I got out. To be honest, it was one of the best days I've ever had.
It was a special joint celebration of a day out, for my partner and my stepdad. Only a few miles away is an amazing, humongous park. A water fountain, golf, a train, play parks and a massive stretch of green grass welcomed us for the day, and we had a blast. My 3 year old left her naughty hat at home for the day and was an absolute angel. My 10 week old seemed to enjoy the outside, and my parents said they enjoyed every second. We finished our day off with a BBQ and a paddling pool session for my eldest. This weather is the perfect excuse to get the pools out for the children and let them splash about!
I ended my Fathers day by taking flowers to my Dad's tree, they sit there along with him, and the amazing view of the countryside.
You could spend £100 and still not have such a lovely day as we did. With all of the negativity surrounding the world currently, Yesterday was a welcome break, and it also made me realise something.. without eachother we have nothing. I feel blessed to have so many amazing people, to make amazing memories with me surrounding me and my family.
I hope everyone reading this had a fantastic Fathers Day, and I hope you will feel as blessed as me after reading this. x
