No idea where 5 months have gone. No idea atall.
It only seems like two days ago we were bringing our new baby boy home and showing all of our friends and family his 10 tiny toes, now it's more of repeating myself "yes he's a big boy, no he doesn't sleep, yes he loves his milk, yes he's nearly in the next size".
Personally, this isn't my favourite age, I enjoy it when they can sit up for themselves, but when they start to roll and move around on the floor I love it! I feel like Rupert is starting to explore his toys and start to watch exactly what his sister is doing now. He's also learning to explore my hair... you know, pulling, tugging, ripping clumps out. Its really enjoyable mostly when i'm stood talking to somebody at the door and he takes a clump, wraps it around his fingers 400 times and then yanks at it, and I have to refrain myself from saying "ohhhhhhhhhhh holy shit get off me". Instead I say "oh you naughty boy grabbing my hair.
We've begun a porridge supper, and I love the expressions that he's beginning to make when I add new ingredients. He is a big fan of his milk still so the next step might be to introduce something else and perhaps drop a bottle. My daughter was the opposite and would rather eat than drink her milk. I get so confused with the advice on when to wean nowadays, on the internet there are sites that say "DANGER DO NOT WEAN BEFORE 18 YEARS" - obviously that's sarcasm but you get the point. I am very fortunate and my health visitor always tells me to go with my gut, and I wanted to follow what I did with my first born so that's what I've done.
Other milestones that we've hit that are not so pleasant are things like teething, the rosy red cheeks have appeared. The joyus sleep regression has hit hard, and he can be up for hours on end some nights just rolling about in his cot or growling like a wild bear. I'm kind of getting used to the 'not much sleep thing' but its still hard. So when I get a break from it for a night it truly is so welcome/ Last week Nana and Grandad took the children for Saturday night, so me and my partner decided we'd have a cosy night in, get a takeaway and watch a film. I argued for about 20 minutes about the choice of film, got my own way, then fell asleep about 3 minutes into it.
Being tired sucks, it really does but even at 3am when I walk into the room and he's smiling it makes me burst with happiness. I may of created a human that's seriously hard work, but I honestly can't imagine life without him now, and even his sister said she LOVED HIM!
